Define your New Years Resolution by Redefining the way you perceive yourself.

As we step into the New Year, we are energized to bring in changes in our own lives through New Year Resolutions. While the intention to change is great, many of us struggle with keeping to our New Year Resolutions and get back to our old self in a matter of days, weeks, or months.

WHY DO WE FAIL TO KEEP TO OUR NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS?

Most of us fail to reach our goals, not because of a lack of motivation, skill, or ability, but because of how we define our resolutions.

Most of us define our resolutions by just focusing on what we want to achieve.

Do you want to eat healthy, get fit, read more books, save money, or buy your dream car?

First, Hit the bull’s eye of behavioral change!!

HOW TO MAKE ACHIEVABLE NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

We all are capable of achieving all that we desire. The secret sauce of achieving New Year Resolutions lies in how we define them.

The book Atomic Habits by James Clear defines 3 LAYERS OF BEHAVIOR CHANGE!

  1. a change in our OUTCOME
  2. a change in our PROCESS
  3. a change in our IDENTITY

In our case, I am presenting it in the form of a dartboard.

Hit the Bull’s Eye of Behavioral Change! New Year Resolutions

The outermost layer is Change in Outcome. It targets what you want to get at the end of the year. What tangible result do you wish to see?

Example: I will lose weight

The Middle layer is a Change in Process. It targets what habits and routines we wish to develop in the year. What steps will we take to achieve what we want?

Example: I am going to exercise daily

The Innermost level is the Change in Identity. It targets our thoughts and beliefs. How do we see ourselves? What is our mental image of ourselves?

Example: I am a strong and fit person with a healthy lifestyle.

Targeting any of the layers is definitely a change in the positive direction, i.e., each layer has its own benefits and is a vital attribute of change.

However, the most impactful change is when you hit the Bull’s Eye of Behavioral Change, i.e., target to first change the way you view yourself.

It’s about transforming your thoughts and feelings from “I want this” to “I am this.

What matters the most is how we see ourselves.

WHO AM I?

Ask Yourself:

  • Who do you want to be?
  • Why do you want to be this new version?
  • What attributes define the new you?

The best form of motivation is when we fall in love with our new Identity. When the way we see ourselves leads to a change in our habits and those habits lead us to achieve remarkable outcomes.

We tend to act in alignment with our beliefs.

So, believe in the New You this New Year!

Finally, Remember:

The New Year is the start for defining your target — your Bull’s Eye!

And Each Day is a new start to reach and become the best version of yourself!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Who do you want to Be?
